Access to the A1 and A29 motorways in Estarreja is closed due to farmers’ protests

Access from Estrada Nacional (EN) 109 to the A1 and A29 highways in Estarreja, Aveiro district, was blocked this Friday by farmers with more than 100 tractors and machines in protest against fair prices for their produce.

Near the roundabout on Estrada Nacional (EN) 109, which provides access to two motorways, traffic in one direction, towards Estarreja, was completely stopped for several hours, while more than 100 tractors were plying the road in the opposite direction. idle speed, preventing access to A1 and A29.

On the ground, Lusa found that the PNP was trying to dissuade farmers from stopping the marches, but road blockades were largely effective.

Farmers present at these hotspots are still awaiting the arrival of more tractors to join the slow march.

Farmers with more than 100 tractors and agricultural machines began a slow march to Estrada Nacional (EN) 109 in Estarreja around 11 a.m. to protest demanding fair prices for their produce.

The protest, organized by the Union of Farmers and Heaths of the District of Aveiro (UABDA), took place a day after the government guaranteed that most of the measures in the package of support for Portuguese farmers announced on Wednesday, with more than 400 million euros, come into effect to take effect later this month, with the exception of those dependent on a green light from Brussels.

The protests by Portuguese farmers are organized by the Civic Farmers Movement, which joins demonstrations in other European countries including France, Greece, Italy, Belgium, Germany and Spain.

The European Commission will prepare a proposal to reduce the administrative burden on farmers, which will be discussed by the 27 member states on February 26.
