Do you suffer from back pain? WHO issues recommendations on which treatments are effective

The World Health Organization (WHO) has released the first treatment guidelines for chronic low back pain (low back pain), a leading cause of disability worldwide, listing effective treatments, approaches to avoid and practices without scientific evidence.

Low back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide, affecting approximately one in every 13 people in 2020, for a total of 619 million people, an increase of 60% since 1990. The WHO estimates it will rise to 843 million by 2050, with the biggest increases in Africa and Asia, where populations are growing and people are living longer.

WHO’s first guidelines for the management of low back pain in primary and community care, published in December and available on the organization’s website, list interventions that health care providers can and cannot use during routine care.
