A top-of-the-line BMW motorcycle worth €30,000 was sold for €2,500 to a friend of the seller, who then filed a theft complaint with the PSP in Leiria so that the insurance company would pay for the damage. The criminal scheme was uncovered by PSP and two of its participants, 25 and 36 years old, are accused of simulating a crime, fraud and forgery.
A BMW GS 1250 Adventure motorcycle from the special edition “triple black” was bought in France and taken to Leiria where the scheme was developed, but the two men did not expect PSP to doubt the veracity of the complaint.
“It’s not that this crime could not have been impossible, but it left us with a lot of reluctance and question marks, since this was a recent car from a well-known brand with a number of protection, immobilization and location mechanisms,” he said CM Commissioner Andre Antunes from PSP Leiria.
A few days later, PSP investigators found the motorcycle – it was at the buyer’s home with a fake registration number – and forced the suspects to confess to the crimes.
