This Saturday, the secretary general of the PCP said that a day of reflection in the Azores is not incompatible with party activities like the one that the PCP carried out in Viana do Castelo with candidates for the early legislative elections.
“I think it is common sense that today in the Autonomous Okrug, under the pretext of a campaign for legislative action, there should not be [dos Açores] where the period of reflection takes place. We believe that this does not contradict party activities,” said Paulo Raimundo.
The National Electoral Commission (CNE) found on Friday that the presentation of IL’s election program for the legislative elections scheduled for this Saturday constituted “propaganda prohibited by law” as it comes on the day of preparations for the regional legislative elections. Azores.
The communist leader, speaking to journalists at the end of a lunch in Viana do Castelo with CDU candidates for the early legislative elections on March 10, added that “there is widespread common sense on the part of the parties, which respects democratic norms and does not have any interference [nas eleições] in the Autonomous Okrug.”
Asked about a far-right protest “against the Islamization of Europe” planned for this Saturday in Lisbon, Paulo Raimundo said he did not want to “fuel” the problem.
“I didn’t want to feed it too much. This was fueled completely unreasonably. The April Revolution, the Constitution, the April values put fascism where it should be, and there are no marches that could change this reality,” he said.
According to the communist leader, freedom of speech is enshrined in the Constitution, “just as it enshrines the ban on apologies for fascism, racism and everything negative.”
“Freedom of expression, yes, sir, but within the framework of the constitution,” he emphasized.
