MAI informed the deputy about a possible connection between “calls for disobedience” by police officers and “extremist movements”

The Minister of the Interior met this Sunday with the national director of the PSP and the commander-in-chief of the GNA and announced that the ministry had reported possible links between “incitement of disobedience” by police officers and “extremist movements.”

José Luis Carneiro also participated in statements by the president of the National Police Union about the risk of not holding legislative elections on March 10 due to a shortage of police officers.

While recognizing the legitimacy of the police’s right to demonstrate, the government “will not tolerate actions that could jeopardize the safety of citizens” and the rule of law, he stressed.

Regarding the next games of the Portuguese Football League, the official assured that all matches scheduled for this Sunday will take place. “The presence of the police is guaranteed,” he said.

The meeting did not change the government’s position on the security forces’ claims. “The governing government does not have the political legitimacy to take on a permanent and prolonged financial burden,” emphasized José Luis Carneiro.

The national director of the PSP announced this Sunday the decision to carry out a “rapid investigation” into the police activities at the Famalican-Sporting football match and called on the police to maintain a “sense of mission for the good of the public cause.”

On Saturday, the Portuguese Professional Football League announced the postponement of the league’s 20th round match due to the health absence of 13 of the 15 selected PSP agents. As a result of incidents between fans near the municipal stadium “22 June” with throwing chairs, stones and bottles, six people were injured.
