Mainland Portugal is facing a wave of cold weather and low temperatures, sometimes freezing in many parts of the country, can be a problem when leaving home, especially when starting a car and driving.
If you leave your car outside at night when the temperature drops significantly, the chances of finding the windshield covered with a layer of ice in the morning are quite high. Find out what to do to defrost your car glass and no longer jeopardize your morning.
We put water at room temperature
One of the most traditional ways to remove ice from a windshield is to pour room temperature water over the glass. You need to be very careful and attentive about the temperature of the water, because if it is too hot, it can evaporate instantly and break the car glass.
Use ethyl alcohol
An effective and quick solution for removing ice from car windows is to mix ethyl alcohol and water. Mix the two substances, for example, in a spray bottle, and pour on the windshield. In a few minutes the ice will melt and you will be able to see the road again.
Use de-icing products
Windshield deicing products make a difference and can make mornings easier. Just place the product on the car window and wait for it to take effect. Then you should use a plastic scraper to remove all the ice that has accumulated on the windshield.
Use a plastic spatula
Another option is to clean the glass with a plastic spatula designed for this purpose. If you don’t have this item at home, you can replace it with a plastic scoop or even a bank card. This trick can take a while, so it’s not the most effective if you’re in a hurry.
Protect your windshield
If you want to avoid repeating the same ritual every morning, you can protect your car. If you don’t have a garage and leave your car outside overnight, you can always cover your windshield with a thick cloth or piece of cardboard. These items can prevent the accumulation of ice on the car window.
