The Somali Parliament ratified the Treaty on Accession to the East African Community

Somalia’s parliament ratified the treaty of accession to the East African Community (EAC) this Saturday, after the country was admitted as the eighth member of the regional bloc on November 24, as announced.

Somalia’s parliament, by a vote of 148 in favor, one against and one abstention, secured the country’s entry into formal membership of the EAC, with Mohamed Osman, national economic adviser to Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, saying that membership “marks the beginning of a new era of regional integration, cooperation and development.”

“Together we will be strong,” Mohamed Osman said in a message via his social media account.”

Somalia was admitted to the EAC Heads of State and Government Summit held on November 24 in Arusha, Tanzania, joining a bloc that includes Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, South Sudan, Rwanda, Uganda and the conference host country. .
