The Left Bloc (BE) split from the CDU’s views on euthanasia and the war in Ukraine. “We have a path to convergence on labor and housing issues. (…) We disagree on the issue of euthanasia and on the assessment of the nature of the regimes in Russia, China and Angola,” explained the BE coordinator during a debate with PKP Secretary General Paulo Raimundo, broadcast this Saturday on the channel SIC.
The communist did not go into detail about the party’s position on the issue of euthanasia, but did not hesitate to point to the European Union (EU) as a “direct player in the war” in Ukraine. “The EU is not neutral,” he emphasized. According to Paulo Raimundo, the “constant call for hatred and war” makes it difficult for the “peacekeeping forces” in the conflicts in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip. For Mariana Mortagua, “the EU has lost its voice” and member states “must organize defense systems in cooperation.”
Regarding housing, both sides consider the PS proposals to be insufficient. “They don’t get to the root of the problem,” says Mariana Mortagua. The CDU demands a “contribution of bank profits.”
Answering a question about a possible post-election agreement with the PS, Paulo Raimundo emphasized the importance of “creating a majority in the Assembly of the Republic, which will force” the Socialists to dialogue with the HDZ and other left-wing parties. “The form of the agreement is not decisive. The content is important,” he explained.
