IL criticizes ‘socialist mediocrity’ with ‘more equal’ proposals

On Monday, the IL president said the PS’s election platform demonstrated “socialist mediocrity” by presenting a macroeconomic scenario prepared to maintain economic stagnation in the next legislature.

Rui Rocha met this morning in Lisbon with the secretary general of the Independent Union of Doctors, Jorge Roque da Cunha, and at the end the journalists asked him about the PS program presented the day before.

The IL President considered that “the PS macroeconomic scenario is ready to support the country’s economic stagnation over the next four years” as he forecast “economic growth of no more than 2%”, a clear signal to the Portuguese.

“Moreover, a complete failure to bring economic growth to a level that could allow Portugal to truly begin to prosper,” he condemned.

The liberal initiative, in the words of its leader, “refuses to allow the country to be led by socialist mediocrity.”

“We are fighting a different battle, our battle to transform the country. The country can be much bigger, the Portuguese can have much more, and this is our fight. More of the same, no thank you,” he emphasized.

Rui Rocha began by specifically mentioning two “absolutely serious and intolerable” health measures proposed by the PS.

“One is the possibility that doctors, if they one day decide to continue their professional career overseas, will have to repay the cost of their training, and the other is a kind of prison for doctors who will have to remain in the NHS for some time. a certain period of time to compensate for the training they received,” he explained.

According to the leader of the IL, “everything is being decided in the wrong way,” given that these proposals demonstrate “the desperation of Pedro Nuno Santos of the PS in the face of the situation of degradation” to which the socialists have brought the SNS and the careers of their specialists.

Roque da Cunha followed the same line of criticism of these PS measures regarding SNS, believing that they “don’t make any sense.”

“These are illegal measures, they threaten the freedom of movement, the freedom of work of those for whom our taxes pay, all of them, students from our country, a variety of professions that we hope will allow them to obtain a higher education,” he defended.

According to the trade unionist, “besides being discriminatory, it is deeply demagogic and populist” and only “intends to make up for the shortcomings that have been created by the Socialist Party government for seven years,” making it clear that “the absence of family doctors can solve this problem.”

“This story is again about succumbing to absolute statism. The Cuban regime has this system, the Soviet regime has this system, and we all know what happened regarding this issue. We sincerely hope that the Socialist Party will change what it will do in this regard,” he said.
