Portuguese man João Resende appeared in court this Wednesday on charges of manslaughter in connection with the death of a one-year-old child. A bail of 100 thousand dollars (about 93 thousand euros) was imposed.This was reported by WLNE TV channel.
The judge ordered the young man to surrender his passport and sign a waiver of extradition. Joao Resende was also banned from communicating with persons under 18 years of age.
The 25-year-old Portuguese will appear in court again on May 20.
Joao Resende and three Portuguese women were arrested on suspicion of the death of a one-year-old child in Pawtucket, USA. Carolina Ledo, 22, Karla Souza, 32, and Daniela Ledo, 25, were charged with child neglect.
The arrest came Saturday after authorities found a child in the apartment where the suspects lived with bruises on her face. The suspects called for help because the child was not breathing.
