PGR considers that the evidence collected in the Madeira corruption case is “consistent and reasonable.”

The Prosecutor General’s Office (PGR) said this Friday that the evidence collected during the investigation into public procurement crimes in the Autonomous Region of Madeira is “consistent and well-founded” and that it is necessary to apply more onerous enforcement measures than the period of identity and residence.

“The evidence collected so far has consistently and consistently pointed to the commission of a number of illegal acts, which were publicly announced on the day of the investigation, as well as to the need for more serious coercive measures than those based on identity and residence,” the PGR said in a statement , to which CM had access.

Pedro Calado, Avelino Fariña and Custodia Correia were released with identification and residence permits after three weeks in custody as part of a major judicial police operation.

These included allegations of active and passive corruption, economic involvement in business, malfeasance, receiving or offering undue advantages, abuse of power and abuse of influence. However, the judge considered that there was no evidence to accuse the defendants of any crime.

After the judge’s decision in the criminal case was announced, the prosecutor’s office announced that it would appeal the decision.

The GRR assured that they would “closely monitor” the process and sent clarifications if they “considered it appropriate” and whether it would harm the investigation of the case.

“In this case, as in all cases of particular significance and public resonance, the Attorney General of the Republic is closely monitoring the progress of the investigation and will provide clarification whenever, without prejudice to its development, he deems it appropriate,” the minister said . PGR.
