PS Secretary-General Pedro Nuno Santos assured on Tuesday that the Socialist government will not divert National Health Service (SNS) funds to the private sector.
“We are not redirecting resources from SNS to the private sector. Public resources must be invested in our hospitals and our health centers,” Pedro Nuno Santos told reporters in Castro Verde, Beja district.
The PS candidate spoke during the election campaign at the health center and basic emergency service in Castro Verde (Beja), whose buildings will be restored with an investment of 2.1 million euros, fully financed by the Plan for Recovery and Resilience (PRR).
“The health of our people is very important, and the residents of this region [Baixo Alentejo] They know very well that they only rely on social media. This is why we must continue to invest in the NHS across the country,” he said.
Pedro Nuno Santos said the PS continues to maintain a “relationship of trust” with pensioners, unlike the PSD, which he accused of “insisting on lies” on the issue.
Referring to the interview of the President of the Liberal Initiative with the online newspaper Observador on Tuesday, in which Rui Rocha said that the PSD “does not have the courage to carry out pension reform”, Pedro Nuno Santos said that “a very important part of the Portuguese right” defends “the partial privatization of the state pension systems.”
“This is the challenge that IL poses to the SDP, and this is another issue on which the SDP continues to insist on lies: the lie that there were cuts to pensions, although all pensioners know that during these eight years of socialist rule Not only were there no cuts, but there was an increase,” he emphasized.
Therefore, he continued, while the PS will “continue to maintain this trusting relationship” with pensioners, PSD leader Luis Montenegro “must first come to terms with the truth before coming to terms with pensioners.”
The Socialist Party leader was on the campaign trail for the March 10 legislative elections in Baixo Alentejo, passing through Beja, Castro Verde and Almodóvar.
Pedro Nuno Santos argued that in a region with a strong tendency towards agriculture, “it is clear that the entire field of agro-industry and agriculture is fundamental to the development of the Portuguese economy.”
“Never in a lifetime will the development of Portugal and its regions be achieved without strong investment in agriculture. Agriculture and agro-industries have the potential to transform brutal economies,” he concluded.
Portugal will hold early legislative elections on March 10, 2024, planned by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, following the resignation of Prime Minister António Costa on November 7, which was the subject of an investigation by the Ministry of State in Portugal. Supreme Court Court.
The election campaign for legislative elections will take place from February 25 to March 8.
