The coordinator of the Bloco de Esquerda, Mariana Mortagua, defended this Wednesday the creation of a shift law that respects the 800,000 Portuguese who work in this mode and provides them with remuneration commensurate with the “morbidity” of their daily life.
In Braga, during contact with Bosch Car Multimedia workers, the blockade manager, in particular, mentioned the provision of shift allowances and a 24-hour rest period for each shift.
The block also wants workers to have two days off every six weeks.
“People need to have time to be with their families because families are also on weekends, which is Saturday and Sunday,” he said.
According to Mariana Mortagua, these are concrete measures that will increase wages, but will also “give rest to those who work all their lives, every day and deserve respect for their work.”
“The Bloc’s vote aims to pass a shift law that respects those who work at Bosch and those 800 thousand who work shifts in Portugal,” he said.
Mariana Mortagua also stated that the Bloc’s program is based on respect for work and a subsequent increase in wages.
“In Portugal it is impossible to increase wages without showing more respect for those who work. There are people who work shifts, others not, but their salaries often do not reach 1000 euros. We cannot live in a country where they pay 1,000 euros for skilled work that requires enormous effort,” he concluded.
