BE wants to restore collective bargaining and set wage ranges

BE coordinator wants to do on labor issues what the “absolute majority” wants to do [do PS] refused” and this Thursday defended the restoration of collective bargaining, the restoration of the principle of more favorable treatment and the determination of wage ranges.

Mariana Mortagua took part this Thursday in Lisbon at a lunch with trade unionists who support the candidacy of BE in the next legislative elections on March 10, at which she received the manifesto “For democracy and work, we support the Bloc”, signed by approximately 150 people.

“We intend in this election, and also in this area, to do what has never been done, to do what the absolute majority has refused to do, against inequality and exploitation,” he said in his speech.

According to the BE leader, the proposals are to “reinstate collective agreements, end the unilateral termination of collective labor regulation instruments and restore the principle of more favorable treatment.”

“Create a new rule throughout the civil service: the state cannot and should not award any awards to companies that do not have a valid collective bargaining agreement entered into last year,” he defended.

For Mariana Mortagua, this is a way to increase wages in Portugal and make “agreements with bosses who provide the biggest tax in a century” and leave workers without pay rises and without respect.

“This is not just a country of low wages, it is a country of inequality. Over 10 years, the salaries of corporate executive presidents have increased by 47%. Over those 10 years, workers have lost 0.7%,” he said.

According to BE, it is “important to define salary ranges” at companies because “no one can earn more in a month than it takes someone else a year to earn in their lifetime.”

Another aspect that Mariana Mortagua advocates is the need to move to 35 hours of work per week in the public and private sectors and to a four-day week.

Summarizing, the leader of the bloc said that the party’s priorities “are increasing wages, guaranteeing life expectancy, guaranteeing respect for those who work.”

“We are leading all the struggles in the world of work now for a socialist program that fights today for tomorrow for the rights of those who work, and it is with this determination of yours that we will carry out this campaign until March 10 for the world of work, for wages, for a good life, for time to live,” he said.
