Madeira approves IL’s condolences on Navalny’s death, but rejects PCP’s identical vote

This Thursday, the Parliament of Madeira unanimously approved a vote of condolences for the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, presented by IL, and rejected another vote with the same purpose, presented by the PKP.

During the debate, the party forces – SDP, PS, PNP, Chega, SDS-PP, PKP, IL, PAN and BE – emphasized and supported Alexei Navalny’s struggle against the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

However, with the exception of the sole deputy BU, all panels criticized the PKP, accusing it of “hypocrisy” in issuing a vote of condolences in connection with the death of a Russian opponent on February 16.

Thus, the IL vote was unanimously approved, while the PCP vote was rejected by votes against PSD, PS, JPP, Chega, CDS-PP and IL, with votes for the dominant party and BE and PAN abstentions being counted.

At this Thursday’s meeting, the plenary also rejected by a majority the PCP’s proposal to create a regional commission to celebrate the 50th anniversary of April 25, 1974.

The only Communist MP, Ricardo Lume, considered that the date should not be celebrated in the region with “insignificant importance”, but only with a ceremonial meeting in the Legislative Assembly, as planned, emphasizing the need to mark the anniversary “with dignity”. .

The diploma was supported by the BE, but the blockade deputy Roberto Almada warned of the possibility of not even holding a formal session in the regional parliament, given that the President of the Republic could dissolve the Legislative Assembly after the political crisis caused by the process. he investigates suspicions of corruption in Madeira that led to the fall of the PSD/SDS-PP executive, with parliamentary support from the MHP, allowing the coalition to gain an absolute majority.

The PCP project failed due to votes against the PSD and CDS-PP, votes received in favor of the dominant party, PS, JPP and BE, and abstention from PAN and IL.

On the other hand, Parliament unanimously approved a vote of solidarity with “all families and communities” affected by the floods of 20 February 2010, which killed 42 people and caused extensive property damage amounting to more than €1 billion.
