Sporting Braga were knocked out of the Europa League today despite winning 3-2 on their visit to Qarabag after extra time in the second leg of the play-off to reach the round of 16.
After a 4-2 home defeat in the first leg, Braga managed to level the score thanks to goals from Roger in the 70th minute and Alvaro Djalo in the 83rd minute, while the Azerbaijanis were already playing with one fewer player due to the exclusion of Elvin Jafargulieva, 57 years old.
In extra time, Matheus Silva gave Qarabag the lead in the 102nd minute, but Banza again equalized for Minho’s team in the 115th minute from the penalty spot, before Nariman Akhundzadeh ensured, with a score of 120+2, Azerbaijan’s first qualification in 1 /8 European Cup finals.
Sporting Braga missed out on their sixth match in the round of 16 of the second UEFA competition, the draw for the next stage of which will take place on Friday in Nyon, Switzerland.
