The President of the Liberal Initiative (IL), Rui Rocha, said this Thursday that the AD and PS must clarify the governance scenarios that they accept or reject, criticizing the “silence” of the PSD and PS for “changing every hour”. your position.
“When I see how the PS changes its position from hour to hour or from day to day, and I see the silence of the PSD, I understand that it would be better for everyone if these parties expressed the scenarios in which they find themselves, as they already have made IL. it’s ready,” said Rui Rocha, speaking to reporters.
On the sidelines of a meeting with the management of the Padre America hospital in Penafiel, Rui Rocha said that, unlike the PSD, the IL is not silent and will not make the PS minority government viable.
“There are those who are silent on this matter, we are not silent. We have a completely different program than the PS, it makes no sense for IL to make the PS government viable. We will not. With us, “The Portuguese know what they are counting on, who we understand, under what conditions,” he said, emphasizing that there will be no mutual understanding with Chega.
“No has always been no for us,” he said.
According to the IL leader, “there is a solution for the country,” which involves “post-election mutual understanding” between liberals and social democrats, but which depends on such guarantees as “structural reform” in the field of health and security. in the electoral system, but also in the relief of the tax burden that the liberals propose.
“This is a necessary concept so that the day after the elections everything does not remain the same, which the PS guarantees, and the SDP does not have the ability to alone say that this will not happen,” he said.
When asked about the basis of this agreement, namely whether it will have parliamentary or governmental influence, Rui Rocha assured that this will not depend on taking office.
“We don’t care about positions, we are ready to manage, but we don’t make it a matter of honor. We understand that it is necessary to change policies in order to change the country, and that it is liberal policies that lead to this transformation, if this is better ensured by being in government, we will be here, if this is better ensured by the agreement on parliamentary advocacy, we will be here,” – he said.
Rui Rocha also added that, regardless of the circumstances, the possible agreement with PSD should be “very clear”, with written conditions “so that the Portuguese can also later evaluate the implementation of this agreement”, which IL wants to be public and transparent.
After a meeting with hospital management that lasted about two hours, the Liberal leader stressed the need for “structural changes in the health care system.”
“We really need to change health care, deeply, through structural changes,” he said.
