According to a report published this Friday by Amnesty International (AI), the Russian government is misusing anti-terrorism legislation to silence any dissent in the country.
Abuse of anti-terrorism and anti-extremism laws in Russia has worsened since February 2022, according to a report by a human rights non-governmental organization (NGO) that marks the second year of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine this Saturday, which is vague and imprecise.
The AI document, titled “Terrorizing Dissent,” describes how Russian authorities are increasingly targeting dissidents and peaceful protesters under the guise of “national security.”
