President Chegi said this Friday that he does not believe that the Armed Forces will carry out street protests despite the government’s mistreatment of them.
“I don’t believe that the army will take to the streets. I think there is dissatisfaction in the armed forces because they are constantly being mistreated,” said Andre Ventura, reacting to a warning from associations representing officers, sergeants and soldiers of the Armed Forces that allowed street protests.
Speaking to reporters before the riots broke out on the streets of Almada in the Setubal district, Andre Ventura accused the government of creating inequalities between security forces and the armed forces that “intensify conflict situations.”
“The government must resolve this situation. Since it won’t solve it, they will have to be the next to solve it. This mission addendum makes sense in the Armed Forces and should be drafted in the same spirit as the Judicial Police Mission Addendum. was framed,” he said.
President Chegi stated that “it makes sense to think and move towards creating an end-to-end complement to the mission.”
“This is how the injustice created by the socialist government will be resolved,” he emphasized.
Associations representing officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces have admitted they will protest in the streets if the next government meets the demands of the security forces, but are not paying “special attention” to the military.
“We strongly, very strongly warn that if after the elections, when the issues of security forces and services are resolved – and very well – special attention, I would say double, to the Armed Forces (…) we are considering all forms of struggle , obviously within the framework of democratic legitimacy, including taking to the streets,” warned Colonel António Mota, President of the Armed Forces Officers Association (AOFA).
These warnings, which were already expressed this Friday by the weekly Expresso, were conveyed by the Colonel in a statement to Luse.
