The PSD president said this Sunday that he is “a man who walks the streets”, “contacts the people” without fear, and predicted that the Portuguese will bring a “great victory” to the AD in the legislative elections.
Luis Montenegro, speaking at a Democratic Alliance (AD) lunch-meeting at a farm in Maia in the Porto district, responded to PS general secretary Pedro Nuno Santos, who on Saturday believed that direct street contact with people, without intermediaries, would be important for their party .
“I felt a lot of support, I felt a lot of enthusiasm. It gives me motivation, I don’t hide it. But make no mistake, if there is one thing where I am exceptionally comfortable, it is communicating with people. ” he said at the end of his speech on the first day of official campaigning for the March 10 legislative elections.
According to Luis Montenegro, the PSD/CDU-PP/PPM coalition campaign responded to all criticism: “They thought we had no ideas – after all, we have them. Then they thought that we didn’t have teams – after all, that’s what we do.”
“Then they thought that the leader, in short, had problems asserting himself – and then they gave up on the campaign, on the debate, on the political and democratic struggles. And now, it seems, they want to say: but he will have any difficulties on the street,” he continued.
Then the PSD president exclaimed: “No, I am a person who maintains contacts with people, I am a person walking down the street, I am a person who discusses, one by one, the voting rights of every Portuguese person. I’m not, I’m not afraid of anything, I’m not afraid to talk to the Portuguese.”
“I know the Portuguese will be with us, they will give us a great victory and we will use this victory to change people’s lives,” he added.
In this speech, Luis Montenegro mentioned that he had heard the promise of the Secretary General of the PS that “now no one will pay tolls” and compared it with his past as Minister of Infrastructure: “But who in recent years has taken care of tolls in Portugal , not quite Pedro Nuno Santos?”
The SDP has proposed a “50% reduction” in tolls in the interior of the country. “Pedro Nuno Santos was a minister and did not implement what was approved by parliament precisely for the purpose of reducing tolls,” he accused.
The PSD president presented the March 10 legislative elections as a choice between “continued impoverishment” with the PS or “safe changes” with the AD and declared that “the Portuguese people are very wise” and will know how to “distinguish between who to decide and who to bind.” .
Earlier, MEP and first vice-president of the PSD Paulo Rangel spoke, as did the head of the AD list from the Porto district, Miguel Guimarães, former president of the Order of Doctors.
Addressing Miguel Guimarães, Luis Montenegro called it the “maximum expression” of the AD option in these elections “to go into society and look for capable people, dynamic people, people who do not even have a party life, people who do not have a party life.” I don’t even dream of having a life policy.”
