Rangel accuses Carneiro of spreading rumors and equates the PS campaign with Chega

PSD vice-president Paulo Rangel accused José Luis Carneiro of spreading rumors and lies, suggesting that secret negotiations were taking place between the parties and comparing the PS’s election campaign methods to those of Chegi.

At a lunch meeting in Maia, on the first day of the official campaign for the March 10 legislative elections, Rangel made a direct attack on the still interior minister and head of the PS list from Braga, who on Saturday suggested that between the Democratic Alliance (AD) and other parties are conducting “hidden negotiations.”

“Yesterday we saw how the head of the Braga list spoke and created rumors, created rumors, created intrigue. What authority does the PS have if the only argument of its campaign is rumors, rumors, lies, fiction?” – he wondered.

Paulo Rangel believes that at the moment the PS “is in despair and is already imitating Chege, whom he criticizes for using fake news.”

“The PS is now desperately emulating Chege and building its campaign on fake news, rumors and hearsay,” he accused.

The leader of the Social Democrats considered that with these statements José Luis Carneiro “completely discredits himself and loses what little authority he has left.”

“Contrary to what many said, he was a bad minister: the police ended up in the situation they found themselves in because José Luis Carneiro did not know how to impose himself on the Council of Ministers and did not defend the dignity of the PSP, the PNP. and other police forces,” he accused.

Rangel stated that it was the government of the PS “Pedro Nuno Santos, José Luis Carneiro and António Costa” that carried out “unfair discrimination” in the security forces, citing the attribution of addition to the mission only to the judicial police, which sparked protests. PSP and GNR.

The PSD vice-president also accused José Luis Carneiro of also being responsible for the creation of the new agency for migration and asylum, which replaced the old SEF and which he considered “extremely problematic”.

“We in AD are not afraid of socialist threats, eight years of endurance have passed and the time has come to free Portugal from the shackles of socialism that want to scare people,” he said.

Earlier, the head of the Porto AD list, Miguel Guimarães, former president of the Order of Doctors, pointed to healthcare figures that he said demonstrate how “poorly managed” the sector is.

The former president pointed to a decline in the number of face-to-face medical consultations in 2023 compared to 2015 – “2.7 million fewer” – and exceeding guaranteed maximum response times in critical areas such as cancer detection. or cardiology, asking Pedro Nuno Santos and the Minister of Health to explain to the country.

“The state of the country is alarming and deserves civil intervention from citizens,” he said, saying that was why he accepted Luis Montenegro’s invitation to head the AD list for Porto.

This luncheon meeting in Maya, attended by more than 600 people, was included in the AD campaign program in Mirandela, Bragança district, and in Vila Real.

In the Porto district, the PSD lost one deputy in 2022, gaining 14 deputies against 19 for the PS.
