Civil defense recorded 174 incidents since 00:00 due to bad weather

Civil protection recorded 174 incidents due to bad weather from 00:00 Sunday to approximately 19:00 on the Portuguese mainland, most of which occurred in the northern region and mainly involved falling trees.

Pedro Araujo, an operations officer at the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), told Lusa that of the 174 incidents, 123 occurred in the northern region, mainly in the districts of Porto and Viana do Castelo.

Of the total number of incidents, 91 were related to falling trees, 31 to falling structures and 35 to road clearing.

Pedro Araujo also noted that the damage was very localized.

On Thursday, ANEPC issued a warning to the public about the possibility of flooding, falling trees and road accidents due to forecasts of rain, snow, wind and rough seas over the next days.
