Bolsonaro gathers crowd in Sao Paulo, asks for amnesty and says he wants to pacify Brazil

We are asking for an amnesty project so that justice can be done in Brazil,” said Jair Bolsonaro, the last to speak at the event, which was scheduled for a short term. and avoid excesses, especially his own, which, contrary to the expectations of many analysts, was an unexpected success for the former president, who has been accumulating failures since leaving office in December 2022.

With the strong support of evangelical churches, Bolsonaro achieved what he wanted, drawing crowds to Avenida Paulista and showing that despite all the criminal charges, trials and ineligibility for elections until 2030, he still has strong popular support. This was exactly what he wanted, in a strategy primarily aimed at avoiding or at least delaying a possible arrest order in one of the many trials he faces in court, revealing that, if he is arrested, there will be great social unrest in Brazil.

Under the very strict control of the organizers, the event prevented any attacks on the Federal Supreme Court, the STF or on Judge Alexandre de Moraes, president of the TSE, the Supreme Electoral Court, which disqualified Bolsonaro from running in the elections last June. Both Bolsonaro and his allies speaking on Avenida Paulista were extremely restrained, not making personal attacks on anyone in the justice system or discrediting institutions. The already planned exception concerned Pastor Silas Malafaya, the organizer and financier of the demonstration, who attacked Lula, TSE and STF, even quoting Alexander de Moraes and insinuating that they were all part of an “evil mechanism”. but without crossing the line of what is acceptable.
