Actor Alec Baldwin’s trial is set for July

Actor Alec Baldwin’s trial for manslaughter for the murder of director Halina Hutchins during the filming of the 2021 western “Rust” is set for July 10, a judge in New Mexico has decided, this Monday – fair – moving forward Reuters. If found guilty, the actor faces up to 18 months in prison.

If Baldwin’s case does go to trial, it will be a landmark event, as there have been several cases in which the Hollywood actor has faced criminal charges for shootings on film sets. The charges against Baldwin were dropped last April.

Film director Galina Hutchins was killed in a shooting from a Colt revolver. The .45 machine gun Baldwin was rehearsing with at a church on the outskirts of Santa Fe fired, also wounding director Joel Souza, the news agency said.

Rust gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez is on trial for allegedly failing to realize she was taking a real bullet to the scene. Prosecutors accuse Hanna of being “sloppy and unprofessional” in her work. The gunsmith told police that when she loaded a bullet into Baldwin’s gun, she mistook the real bullet for a fake one.

Like Baldwin, Gutierrez is charged with manslaughter, reports Reuters.
