Pedro Nuno Santos wants to introduce a 37.5-hour week for parents with children under three years old

The Socialist General Secretary promised this Friday that if he forms a government, he will propose in public consultations a 37.5-hour working week for parents with children under three, allowing for better supervision of children.

Pedro Nuno Santos spoke at a rally in Castelo Branco, in which he also said he wanted to reduce waiting times for consultations in the National Health Service (SNS) and improve medical support for young couples who want to have more children.

Already in the midst of social consultations, the leader of the Socialists announced that he wanted to “agree with social partners to reduce working hours from 40 to 37.5 hours for young parents with children under three years of age.”

“We want young parents to be able to accompany their children in the first three years of their life. We want young couples to be able to monitor the growth of their children. Our economy is growing,” said the PS Secretary General.

Also, according to Pedro Nuno Santos, the socialist government will strive to “make free kindergarten accessible to all young couples.”

“But we want more: we want universal and free pre-school education in Portugal. This is our goal so that they can see their children grow in quality and conditions,” he added.
