A couple and their young son were left homeless this Saturday after a fire left the apartment they lived in uninhabitable in the center of the town of Sesimbra, Setubal district, firefighters said.
Sesimbra deputy fire chief Pedro Santos told Lusa that in addition to the three evacuees, one of them and a neighbor suffered minor injuries due to smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital in Setúbal.
In a conversation with Lusa, representatives of the Subregional Command for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection of the Setubal Peninsula said that the fire, the alarm for which was raised at 11:40, broke out in an apartment located on Rua Conseleiro Ramada Curto.
According to the deputy chief of the Sesimbra fire department, the apartment damaged by the fire is on the second floor of a building located on this street, which had to be temporarily evacuated for work to extinguish the fire.
The fire engulfed the kitchen but the apartment was left uninhabitable, meaning three residents had to be moved into family homes, he said.
In addition to the fire service of Sesimbra, the relief operations also involved the GNR and the Municipal Civil Protection Service with 26 operators supported by 10 vehicles.
