This Saturday, the Secretary General of the PS asked the President of the PSD to clarify whether he wants to change the career system in public administration, especially for teachers, calling into question the length of service factor.
Pedro Nuno Santos spoke to journalists in Mirandela during a short visit to Feiro da Alheiro, with the President of the Chamber, Julia Rodrigues, and the head of the Socialist List of Braganza, Isabel Ferreira, where he welcomed the sellers of regional Trás-os-Montes products such as cheeses, aleiras, olive oil and wine.
On Friday evening in Santa Maria da Feira, PSD President Luis Montenegro defended that civil servants “should have a system of promotion, always and only on the basis of their work and their merit.”
For the Socialist leader, “it was very important that the leader of the Democratic Alliance (AD) said what he wanted” regarding government workers.
“He stated that you can advance in a career based on merit, but this is already happening in government. But there are careers in which you advance over time, for example, teachers,” he noted.
Pedro Nuno Santos then referred to the PSD’s promise to gradually restore all frozen teachers’ working hours.
“It is important that Luis Montenegro explains that he does not want to change the rules for developing a teaching career. We still have this doubt,” he emphasized.
In statements to journalists, Pedro Nuno Santos refused to explain why he said he believed his next political opponent would be former Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho and denied he was “sending nonsense to AD.”
“AD candidates are the ones who throw curse words at me. I never swear at anyone,” he retorted, before having to face a statement from Luis Montenegro declaring that everyone is in a coalition together.
Pedro Nuno Santos reacted: “I’m glad you said that because it makes it clear that AD is a project of the past because that’s what they show the country.”
According to the Secretary General of the PS, “Every time someone appears [da AD]people remember the worst.”
“Remember the attack on Pedro Passos Coelho’s pensions, the attack on women’s rights by Paulo Nuncio or the climate change denial made by the head of the AD list in Santarem. [Eduardo Oliveira e Sousa]. What AD needs to present is the past,” he said.
Faced with the insistence of journalists and questions about the Prime Minister between 2011 and 2015, the Secretary General of the PS responded: “The only thing I know is that Pedro Passos Coelho, with his then parliamentary leader Luis Montenegro, reached the people far beyond that , which was in the troika’s memo.
“It’s part of their curriculum. They are not trusted among older people in Portugal,” he added, after greeting several senior citizens visiting Feira da Aleira de Mirandela.
