Rui Tavares says right-wing “brings back bad memories” and insists on fighting beneficial voting

This Sunday, the representative of Livre emphasized that recent governments of the left “have left a satisfaction”, namely a “cunning invention”, in contrast to those of the right, which “bring back bad memories”, and also left a call to fight the useful vote.

During a visit to the Armador district in Chelas, a district of Lisbon, Rui Tavares was asked about the participation of Prime Minister António Costa in the socialist campaign for the legislative elections on the 10th.

“I think that this absolute majority was not enough, but I see that the left in its debates showed elevation and substance, left-wing governments over the last decade and a half, since the “contraption”, have left satisfaction. And rightly so, when it brings in its former prime ministers, it brings bad memories,” he said.

According to the head of the list in Lisbon, when the Democratic Alliance (which brings together PSD, CDS-PP and PPM) brings names such as Cavaco Silva, Durau Barroso or Pedro Passos Coelho into the election campaign, “what people remember matters a lot. austerity.”

However, despite the call for a vote from the left, Rui Tavares did not fail to warn that “the useful vote two years ago did not decide anything,” referring to the absolute majority of the PS, and after António Costa addressed the undecided on Saturday.

“What matters is that we give strength to the ideas we like best. We urge everyone to fight the idea that this blackmail of voters should be effective, as well as to fight misinformation about Livre’s positions,” he said, believing that this is an important step. request at the beginning of the second and final week of the election campaign.

When asked whether António Costa would be suitable for the post of President of the European Council, Rui Tavares did not give a direct answer, but left several “comments” addressed to the still Prime Minister.

“Those who choose the presidents of the Council are the governments of the European Union, and we are the bad ones. The EU needs democratization,” he began by answering, arguing that the body “should be a real Senate” with “elected legislators.”

Rui Tavares emphasized that António Costa “never followed Livre’s more advanced and ambitious ideas for the European Union”, and criticized the fact that the chief executive believed, during the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, that “violations of the rule of law in Hungary should not be punished financially.”

Asked about the differences between socialists António Costa and Pedro Nuno Santos, Tavares said that “there must be a new generation of politicians in Portugal who are not happy with the convergence with the European Union average”, noting that this is not enough to ensure that young people are not emigrate.
