The chairman of the SDP said this Monday that “there is an unconditional victory for the AD,” but when asked whether he would ask for an absolute majority, he replied that “he will not ask for any majority” and will fight for the largest possible number of votes.
At the end of the street in Chavez (Vila Real district), Luis Montenegro stood on a bench, as he has done in other places, and thanked the “commitment, motivation and energy” of the supporters who had joined the initiative.
“Portugal is actually undergoing political change, next Sunday there will indeed be a clear victory for AD,” he said, warning, however, that “the enthusiasm of the street must be transferred to the polling stations.”
Asked if he would ask for an absolute majority in this final week of the campaign, he replied: “I’m not going to ask for any majority, I’m going to ask for votes, I’m going to fight vote by vote to get the most votes.”
In statements to reporters, Montenegro did not directly answer questions about the positions of the other candidates, but reaffirmed its belief in a right-wing majority next Sunday.
“I don’t believe in any kind of blackmailing of people, I really trust people’s sanity,” he said when asked to comment on the position of IS leader Rui Rocha.
The chairman of the SDP and leader of the AD repeated that in this campaign he was not interested in “big considerations about the party-political game that will be played depending on the results.”
“The people are responsible, we have a political program for change and we feel that people want to stick to it,” he said in statements made in the middle of the street, in the presence of one of his children.
