Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, called on Russians this Wednesday to join the protest on Russian election day, March 17, and vote against President Vladimir Putin or have their votes annulled, reports Reuters.
The idea is for people to protest without any risk of arrest and show up en masse at the same time on Election Day in cities across the country, the same source said.
“We need to use election day to show that we exist and that there are many of us. We are real, living people, and we are against Putin,” says the widow of Russia’s main opponent.
He adds that the choice is on the side of the citizens, who can vote “for any candidate except Putin.”
“They can spoil the ballot, they can write ‘Navalny’ in capital letters,” he says.
