After a “wave of change,” the leader of the Democratic Alliance (AD), Luis Montenegro, ended his election campaign in the north of the country this Thursday with the expectation of victory on March 10, assuring that “time will decide everything.” lack of “government experience” criticized by opponents.
In Porto, the rain was still frightening ahead of the riots on the Rua de Santa Catarina, but it stopped when Montenegro joined the crowd, AD’s biggest event of the campaign. Together with his wife Carla Montenegro, the coalition leader greeted the people of Porto, signed the PSD flag and was even thrown into the air by supporters. Nearby were party figures such as Paulo Rangel, Miranda Sarmento and Hugo Soares.
At the final rally, in a tent in Plaza D. João I, he downplayed the rise in polls, noting that “when we were there, we believed. I knew we could tell people that another country is worth fighting.”
He also criticized his opponents, in particular the leader of the CoP, saying that “a leader must point out what is important” and asking the audience question: “Do you want a leader constantly talking about his opponents or who is talking to you?” The guarantee for the future was: “The government can only be run with the support of the people.”
The campaign will end this Friday with a rally planned in Campo Pequeno, with the participation of Cavaco Silva and Manuela Ferreira Leite.
