This week, the PJ team helped extradite to Portugal a drug trafficker arrested in Colombia, known around the world as “El Doctor”.
In 2012, during an operation carried out in Costa da Caparica, the PS seized more than 340 kilograms of high purity cocaine and detained four more suspects, all foreigners. A Portuguese court sentenced the extradited Colombian citizen to 11 years in prison at first instance. However, the period of pre-trial detention expired and “El Doctor” was eventually released.
He fled to an unknown location, but Spanish police found him, detained him and extradited him to the United States (USA). Authorities in North America have issued an international arrest warrant for crimes committed in the United States.
