A 59-year-old man died this Saturday morning as a result of a fall while unloading a garbage truck at the Recinorte landfill in Codesoso, municipality of Celorico de Basto.
The accident occurred at 8:10 am. According to Celoricenses Fire Department Chief Fernando Gomez, the corporation’s officers have already found the victim in cardiopulmonary arrest. Despite attempts at resuscitation, it was not possible to turn the situation around and he was pronounced dead on the spot.
The cause of the worker’s fall – from a height of approximately seven meters – will now be investigated, with the possibility that it was caused by a sudden illness not ruled out.
In addition to the firefighters of Celoricense and GNR, INEM medical teams and psychologists were also present at the scene to provide support to the victim’s colleagues who lived in the parish of Aguilde, also in Celorico de Basto.
