Luis Montenegro declares victory: “AD’s victory seems inevitable”

Luis Montenegro declared AD victory in Sunday’s legislative elections. “The victory of AD seems inevitable. PS lost the elections,” he emphasized.

Given the results, the PSD president has a “reasonable expectation” that the President of the Republic will be able to nominate him to form a government. “The Portuguese wanted to change their government and policies. They want the big parties to have the opportunity to prove themselves, capable of renewing themselves. (…) Parties must pay more attention to dialogue,” he said.

This change leads to new policies. “It is possible that our economy can grow more, pay higher wages, place greater value on the efforts of those who work, give hope to young people, stability to those leading active lives, and dignity to older people. It is possible to fight corruption and recover. the prestige of Portuguese institutions,” he listed.

Regarding the conditions of governability, he recalled that “the Portuguese made possible the possibility of creating a government led by AD” and appealed to “the sense of responsibility of everyone who will sit” in parliament. “I understand that the PS does not see itself in our program. PSs are not invited to join our program. She is asked to respect the will of the Portuguese,” he said.

Regarding a possible post-election agreement with Chega, he repeated: “I would never do such harm to myself or my party. (…) I will keep my word.”

The Democratic Alliance (AD) leads the vote count with a slight lead over the Socialist Party (PS), with more than 99% of the votes. It remains to count the votes of approximately one parish. At 00:16, 77 deputies were elected from AD, 75 from PS, 46 from Chega, eight from IL, five from Bloco de Esquerda, four from Livre, three from CDU and one from PAN.
