Applause and shouts of “Enough, enough!” were heard among party supporters this Sunday after election night, with the parliamentary leader emphasizing that forecasts pointed to an “excellent result” and a “victory for the right.”
“We are in for a historic night. The first forecasts point to this, they indicate that there will be a turning point in Portugal, there will be a victory for the right and there will be a great result for Chega,” said Pedro Pinto.
“We are ready to join the government,” he said, but added that he had not yet spoken with Montenegro.
The Lisbon hotel room that Chega chose to watch on election night contains mostly journalists and a few dozen supporters gathered at 8 pm next to two televisions to watch the first broadcasts that bring victory to the Democratic Alliance (SDS/PSD Coalition).
When Chega’s data was presented, which indicated the party’s growth, supporters applauded and shouted “Chega, Chega, Chega” and “Portugal, Portugal, Portugal” while making a “V” with their fingers to signify victory.
Comments such as “it is Chega who matters” or “without Chega there will be no right-wing majority” were also heard.
