The PAN spokesman this Sunday held the President of the Republic responsible for contributing to the political instability in the country after the “disbelief of the people” turned into votes for Chegu in Sunday’s elections.
“We know that the political context is very unfavorable and I cannot help but regret that the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, somehow contributed to all the political instability that we are experiencing, so that the disbelief of the people turned into a vote of protest, and not a vote of confidence in the political forces of the democratic spectrum,” noted Ines Souza Real.
The re-elected MP, however, assured that she is “absolutely confident that if the country goes to elections again, the Portuguese will consider possible constructive solutions in the Assembly of the Republic, and not from undemocratic populist forces.” .
Ines Sousa Real commented on the election results at the party headquarters on election night, in the King’s Room at the Rossio train station in Lisbon.
According to preliminary results, PAN polled 117,389 votes (1.92%) in these legislative elections, compared to 88,127 (1.58%) recorded in 2022.
Following the election of Andre Silva in 2015, the PAN won four seats in parliament in 2019, but returned to a single representative after the 2022 legislative elections, a mandate it retained in Sunday’s elections.
