A family of three adults and a child were left homeless this Monday after a fire left the house they lived in uninhabitable in Elvas, Portalegre, a Civil Protection source told the Lusa agency.
A source from the Alto Alentejo Subregional Emergency and Civil Protection Command said the fire alarm was raised at 16:39.
According to the same source, the fire was declared extinguished and emergency restoration work was carried out at 17:03.
As a result of the fire, which “completely destroyed” one of the rooms and “caused damage to the rest of the house” located in the historical center of Elvas, “there were no casualties,” the sub-regional command added.
A family consisting of three adults aged 19 to 45 years and a 12-year-old child lived in the house.
Speaking to Lusa, a source from the Elvas City Council said efforts were underway to move four people into housing owned by the municipality.
13 operatives were involved in the relief operations, including members of the PSP and the Municipal Civil Protection of Elvas.
