Carlos Moedas said the Democratic Alliance “will not govern with Chega”

Lisbon Mayor Carlos Moedas (PSD) said on Tuesday that the Democratic Alliance (AD) will not govern with Chega, recalling that Social Democratic leader Luis Montenegro spoke clearly on the issue during the election campaign.

“I think the leader of AD [Aliança Democrática, formado por PSD, CDS e PPM] It was clear, just as I, as mayor, was clear: I do not govern Chega, and AD does not govern Chega,” Carlos Moedas told reporters at the end of the opening of the new Graça funicular connecting the area to Mouraria.

This is how Carlos Moedas answered a question from journalists about statements made on Antena 1 by PPM President Gonçalo da Camara Pereira, who today defended negotiations with Chega on the formation of a new right-wing government.

The mayor considered that Sunday’s legislative elections were a “unique moment” of “a change in the cycle in the country and that now those who win will form the government.”

The mayor of Lisbon also said that the Portuguese “don’t want to go from election to election” but want “a stable government with a clear AD project that wins elections.”

Carlos Moedas recalled that the parties “with responsibility in parliament will do what they must and [decidir] whether they want or not a government that changes the cycle.” “It is he [Luís Montenegro] whoever will be prime minister, the responsibility for supporting him lies with the PS, Chege and other parties,” he emphasized.

Carlos Moedas reiterated his support for the PSD leader, reiterating that there is “clarity” in his Montenegro-led “cycle change clarity” program.

“There is a program, the deputies, whether from the PS or from Chegi, will have to accept the program or not and will have to discuss it in the Assembly. [República]”, but it will be AD and the government of Montenegro,” he emphasized.

The Democratic Alliance, with 29.49%, received 79 deputies in the Assembly of the Republic in Sunday’s legislative elections against 77 for the PS (28.66%), followed by Chega with 48 elected deputies (18.06%).

IL with eight seats, BE with five and PAN with one, maintained the number of MPs. Livre went from one elected representative to four, and the CDU lost two seats and was left with four deputies.

Four MPs are yet to be investigated for emigration, which will not happen until 20 March. Only after this date and after hearing the parties represented in parliament, the President of the Republic will appoint a new prime minister.
