Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday signed a law that allows soldiers to freeze their reproductive cells so they can provide offspring through assisted reproduction techniques after their death.
The law, the signing of which was announced by the head of state on the parliament website, gives combatants the opportunity to preserve their reproductive cells free of charge by freezing them for a maximum period of three years from the moment of the soldier’s death.
Sperm or eggs from dead soldiers prepared using this technology can be used to create offspring after death, with paternity or maternity recognized by law.
