André Ventura said that through “informal channels between Chega and the PSD” he is preparing a “four-year government solution” that will be presented by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in an interview given this Wednesday to the newspaper Grande Jornal da. CMTV. President Chegi refuses to “foster the idea that the left can govern”, admitting the party has no plans to table a motion to reject a possible Democratic Alliance government.
“Only because of irresponsibility can new elections be held. (…) It makes no sense for a party with almost 20 percent of the votes to remain outside the government,” he emphasized. He will also express his disagreement with the “failed attempt to condition democracy” before the election of the President of the Republic. “The President should not oppose” the government agreement with Chega, he emphasized.
According to Andre Ventura, the government led by Social Democrat Luis Montenegro should be “shorter” than previous ones. As part of the ministries, Chega wants to have a say in the portfolios of finance, agriculture, internal administration and justice. Priorities should include “fighting corruption, cutting taxes, raising pensions, working for security forces and ex-combatants,” he listed. On the issue of immigration, Chegi’s position is “stronger” than that of the SDP, he claims.
On Chegi’s part, the “plan” is not to introduce a proposal to reject a possible Democratic Alliance government. “Chega is a party that loves to build, not destroy,” he noted. Regarding the motion to dismiss announced by PCP, Andre Ventura called it “absolutely immaterial.” “I think it’s funny that the PKP, together with four deputies, is presenting a proposal to reject a program that we don’t know about,” he said. As for the meeting of the left parties requested by the BU, he believes that “it only exists because they see the weakness of the right.”
For now, Chega is waiting for an “agreement on amendments to the budget” with the SDP and SDS-PP, but does not undertake obligations to approve the state budget for 2025. “I will only vote in favor if there are negotiations. (… .) I know that the risk is on my side,” he emphasized.
