Mariana Mortagua assured that the Left Bloc will be “resolutely opposed to the right-wing government” this Friday after meeting with the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in Belém.
The BE leader added that she intends to talk to the remaining left-wing parties so that common ground can be created.

Referring to the election results, Mortagua said that “unfortunately for the country, there has been a significant shift to the right.” The lawmaker said she expressed her concern about the growth of far-right forces to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and added that this growth “will affect the functioning of the Assembly of the Republic.”
Another concern expressed by BE leader Marcelo was about the situation in Madeira.
“To ensure consistency with the decisions taken in the past, it is important that the President of the Republic calls elections in Madeira, and we also wanted to leave this note, maintaining the position that we have already taken in the past and which we will continue to defend,” he addressed.
According to Mariana Mortagua, “PSD/Madeira has no conditions to remain in government, regardless of the leadership of that government.”
“There has been a crisis of the regime, a crisis of governance of the PSD in the Autonomous Region of Madeira for decades, and the solution to a political crisis of this magnitude and severity is elections. We defend this in the Republic, we defend this in Madeira consistently. and We expect the same consistency from the President of the Republic,” he said.
