Critics of the current leadership of the Bloc de Esquerda (BE) deplored this Saturday the party’s “sticking to PS” in the legislative campaign and called for “critical humility” regarding the political line being pursued.

The National Council of BE, the highest body between congresses, met this Saturday in Lisbon to analyze the results of last Sunday’s elections.

According to these leaders, “the thesis that persistent calls for an alliance between the government and the PS protected the Bloc from bipolarization is simply a self-justification of the line being pursued, as the election results show.”

According to these critics, “what actually happened was that this call, as the central axis of the BE campaign, exacerbated pre-existing difficulties and prevented polarization around vote-grabbing politics in many popular sectors rebelling against the PS government’s lack of responsiveness and the inequalities of the system.”

“The PS leader did not want to separate from the previous governments and lost, the Bloc stuck to the PS and did not restore the trust lost during the previous election cycle. The Bloc moved away from its matrix,” they accuse.

One of the positions already taken by BE coordinator Mariana Mortagua regarding the results of Sunday’s legislative elections, in which the party retained parliamentary representation of five deputies, is that the blocists “resisted” by increasing their vote “35 times.” thousand votes.”

For domestic critics, it is a “superficial balance” that puts the “level of comparison on par with BE’s biggest election defeat two years ago.”
