A woman and child died early Saturday morning in the town of Mocuba, in central Mozambique’s Zambezia province, after they were hit by a runaway car that drove into a local square.
The incident took place around 6 pm on Saturday and according to a source at the city hospital, two people, a 38-year-old woman and a three-year-old child, died at the scene, while six others were injured and rescued there. .
Of the total number of people hospitalized, two were seriously injured, including an 18-month-old child.
The out-of-control car tore through Praça da Paz square in the city center and crashed into several food stalls, people said.
A local police source confirmed this Sunday the nature of the accident and admitted that it was caused by the car’s “excessive speed.”
