Dani Alves assured a court on Tuesday that he has faith in Spanish justice and will not flee if he is granted temporary freedom.
At a new hearing that took place this morning in a Barcelona court, Dani Alves, sentenced in February to four years and six months in prison for sexual assault, assured that he intends to remain in Spain throughout the trial and in his intervention via videoconference, still: “I’m not going to run away, I believe in justice.”
Ines Guardiola, the lawyer for the former player, now 40, asked for the Brazilian’s release, arguing that the €150,000 compensation he paid to the victim served as a “mitigation to reduce the sentence”, which she said, according to Sport. “This should be considered very relevant.”
The verdict, which will determine whether Dani Alves remains in prison in Barcelona or is released on parole, is expected to be known this week.
Recall that Dani Alves was found guilty of sexual assault in connection with events that occurred on the night of December 30-31, 2022 at a Sutton nightclub, when the Brazilian had non-consensual sex with a woman in one of the bathrooms at that nightclub.
