MP Paula Santos, elected by Setúbal’s circle, will remain president of the PCP parliamentary group in the next legislature, a Communist source told Lusa.
The news was reported by Rádio Renascença and confirmed to Lusa by a PCP source.
Paula Santos, a member of the Political Commission of the PCP Central Committee, has been leader of parliament since 2022, when she succeeded João Oliveira, who was not elected that year.
The deputy headed Setubal’s list and was the only party elected by this circle.
In the next legislative body, the parliamentary group of communists will consist of four deputies. PCP Secretary General Paulo Raimundo and leader António Filipe were elected by Lisbon, Paula Santos by Setúbal and Alfredo Maia by Porto.
According to the preliminary results of the legislative elections on the 10th published by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of the Interior, and at a time when four deputies still need to be distributed among the emigration circles, the CDU (PKP-PEV coalition) 3.30%, equivalent to 202,325 voices.
Paula Santos, 43, is a member of the Political Committee of the PCP Central Committee and was first elected as a deputy in 2009.
With a degree in technological chemistry, she was the first woman to head the communist bench.
Elected to the Seixal Municipal Assembly, she was also a councilor of that municipality between 2005 and 2009.
