The Minister of Agriculture announced this Monday that the appointment of the Secretary of State for Agriculture will take place shortly, without any deadline, following the resignation of Carla Alves the day after taking office.
“Soon we will have one or more secretaries of state who will occupy [o cargo] and be able to serve Portuguese men and women,” Maria do Seu Antunes responded on the sidelines of the European Union Council of Ministers of Agriculture meeting in Brussels.
However, Maria do Seu Antunes did not set a deadline for appointing Carla Alves’ successor.
The latest amendment to the structure of the government, published on January 27, did not include the secretary of state for agriculture, and at that time the government made it clear that matters under this supervision would be provided by the minister.
In the latest government reshuffle, Carla Alves took over as Secretary of State for Agriculture, succeeding Rui Martinho, who left the post for health reasons.
However, the governor stayed in office for only one day. The next day, Correio da Manhã reported that Carla Alves had had her accounts confiscated as part of a lawsuit against her husband, the former mayor of Vinhais.
Also, when asked about criticism from the Agricultural Confederation of Portugal (CAP) and the resignation of the minister, the minister replied that she was “in Brussels, in defense of farmers and their needs, asking to activate the Agricultural Confederation. To book”.
