The Civil Guard’s central operational unit is carrying out searches at the Spanish Football Federation (FEF) as part of an investigation into illegal contracts over the past five years. According to the sports newspaper TOThere are already seven detainees.
The operation is carried out by the Court of First Instance and the Majadahonda Instructions in Madrid, in agreement with the prosecutor’s office. More than a dozen investigations are planned in private homes in various locations in Spain. One of the searches took place in the house of former FPF President Luis Rubiales.
At stake are suspected crimes related to business corruption, unfair management and money laundering. One of the contracts under investigation is the contract for the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, signed by the then president of the federation with businessman and former football player Gerard Pique.
