Cega President André Ventura welcomed this Wednesday the party’s preliminary results in Europe and beyond, anticipating victory in both areas. “This is a historic result. The emigrants know the reasons for the failure and have risen with justice and determination for change,” he said.
The deputy also commented on the resignation of Augusto Santos Silva from parliament, considering it “a symbol of victory over arrogance and ideological blindness” on Chega’s part. “Voters gave a clear signal that they do not want him in parliament. They freed us from the toxic asset of socialism,” he stressed.
Considering it natural to appoint Social Democrat Luis Montenegro as Prime Minister, Andre Ventura welcomed the new parliamentary structure. “The left and the extreme left have been defeated. This majority cannot be lost in vain,” he emphasized.
If we add to this the mandates of European and external circles, the party must recruit 50 deputies. “This Assembly of the Republic will be historic. Crucial reforms will be given the green light without the consent of the left. We have the opportunity to make fundamental changes,” he predicted.
In the current scenario, Chega “would be surprised if there were no budget amendments” proposed by PSD and CDS, and is willing to discuss it if the document is limited to “three or four points” such as “increasing police numbers and changing teacher working hours “
At the end of his speech, Andre Ventura thanked voters for the party’s results. “The Portuguese ignored the intoxication to which public space was subjected. They voted for change,” he said.
