A PAN spokesman said this Thursday that the party will be vigilant in the next legislature against “possible setbacks or threats to acquired rights” and asked the prime minister-designate not to use them “as a bargaining chip in governance.”
In a conversation with the Lusa agency, Ines de Souza Real congratulated the PSD leader on his victory in the legislative elections of the 10th and wished him “a good mandate in the interests of the country.”
“We have different views of the country and society than the AD, and the PAN will not fail to remain vigilant against possible setbacks or threats to the acquired rights achieved during this year,” he noted.
The only PAN deputy who was re-elected asked Luis Montenegro to “take into account the progress that has been made regarding these last mandates, especially in terms of animal protection and the environment, but also in the field of human rights, in particular human rights” . women’s rights so that it does not jeopardize this emerging union.”
Ines de Souza Real also called on the prime minister-designate not to “use these same acquired rights as a bargaining chip to govern and achieve power in government, especially with Chega or her partners in the Democratic Alliance.”
“We leave here a challenge to Luis Montenegro so that he also effectively respects the achievements made over the years and that he knows how to preserve this legacy that the Assembly of the Republic leaves,” he said.
The PAN spokeswoman noted that her party “will be a political force of active opposition and will also be very vigilant, acting, as it always has until now, as the guardian of the values that it represents in the Assembly of the Republic.” “and assured that he would do everything “so that there are no failures.”
“We were even ready for dialogue with other political forces on the democratic spectrum, because all of us who are committed to democracy and the values of April 25 will have to work together to prevent this fall. what we have managed to achieve so far,” he said.
Regarding the declaration of refusal announced by the PCP in the program of the AD government, Sousa Real said that the matter will be analyzed by the National Political Commission of PAN.
The People-Animais-Natureza leader stressed the need to know the text of the proposal and the program of the new government, but acknowledged that she could make it viable.
“We expect that, in accordance with its electoral program and what this Democratic Alliance coalition has been, it is assumed that ultimately the PAP may join this proposal, if in fact Luis Montenegro insists on this outdated vision and which in some way kind of calls into question the work done over the years in the Assembly of the Republic,” he said.
Following the completion of the counting of votes and the distribution of all parliamentary mandates, Ines de Sousa Real welcomed the reduction in the number of abstentions and expressed regret over the number of votes that did not contribute to the election of deputies, as well as votes that were considered invalid in exile.
The only deputy said that she would once again present to the Assembly of the Republic an initiative to introduce a compensation circle, allowing the election of four deputies and the redistribution of mandates in each electoral district.
Domestically, the PAN representative also confirmed to Lusa the resignation of three members from the National Political Commission: Albano Lemos Pires (elected on its list) and Sandra Enteiriso and Ricardo Vicente (from the internal opposition).
The Democratic Alliance (AD) won the elections on March 10, and the leader of the SDP was appointed prime minister by the president of the republic. Luis Montenegro will present his government on March 28, with the inauguration scheduled for April 2.
