Marisa Matias replaced by Anabela Rodriguez in the European Parliament

Marisa Matias, elected BU in the last legislative period, will leave the European Parliament to take her place as a deputy in the Assembly of the Republic, replaced by cultural mediator Anabela Rodriguez, number four on the blacklist.

In a post on social media, Marisa Mathias states that she will take office in the Portuguese Parliament on Tuesday, marking the debut for the MEP and leader of BE so far.

“Anabela Rodriguez will replace me in the European Parliament. How proud it will be to hear her voice in Europe,” you can read in the same publication.

Cultural mediator and anti-racist activist Anabela Rodríguez, who was on the Lisbon list in the March 10 legislative elections but was not elected, came fourth on the BE list in the 2019 European elections.

In these European Parliament elections, BE elected two MEPs: Marisa Matias and José Gusmão.

In a social media post, Marisa Matias thanks Sergio Aires, who came third on the 2019 European lists, saying he will “be committed to his position as councillor” on the Porto city council.

Marisa Matias arrives in the Assembly of the Republic for the first time in this legislative body after leading the BE list for Porto.

The leader of the bloc, part of the main bodies of the party such as the Secretariat, the Political Commission and the National Council, has already been the protagonist of four BE candidates: head of the list of the European Parliament (2014 and 2019). and the candidate supported by BE in the last two presidential elections (2016 and 2021).

Marisa Isabel dos Santos Matias was born in Coimbra on February 20, 1976 and is a sociologist in which she holds degrees, master’s degrees and doctorates.

She became involved in student and civic affairs from an early age, serving as a national leader of the Citizenship and Responsibility for Yes Movement during the national referendum to decriminalize abortion in 2007. In 2009, she was elected for the party for the first time as a member of the European Parliament.
